In a previous version of this post, I called out the lead maintainer by name, several times in the post. In the current version I refer to him as “Git’s maintainer” until the final section where we talk about his historical decisions. It was never my intention to insult Git’s maintainer, and I hope that this change makes it clear that I respect Git’s maintainer and the decisions that he made.
